Acer Aspire One A 150 – a decent netbook for just around $300

Acer has quite lots of netbooks on the market, all very similar in prices and with just minor differences in configuration. They all look almost the same and are known for three main things: good price, decent performances and portability .

That being said, we’re going to take a look now at the Aspire One A 150 model, with the following configuration:

  • 8.9″ display (1024 x 600 px)
  • CPU: Intel Atom N270
  • RAM memory: 1GB DDR2 667 MHz
  • Graphic chip: Intel i945GME
  • Storing: Hitachi 160GB HD
  • Battery: Li-Ion 2900mAh
  • Connectors: 3xUSB , 1xRJ45 , 1xVGA , audio
  • Connectivity: Wi-fi (no Bluetooth)
  • Others: MMC/SD/MS card reader, webcam

So, inside de Aspire One A 150 you’ll get a 8,9″ screen. This means the body is pretty compact, measuring just 249 x 170 x 29 mm . But, unlike other similar 8.9″ netbooks from Asus or Toshiba, the keyboard is pretty well balanced, with keys size being chosen very very well. This means you won’t get too uncomfortable using this keypad for a longer period of time, but you will still have to take a couple of hours to get used to it. Touchpad on the other size is tiny. So tiny you’ll surely have problems moving your fingers around it, cause it looks like it was designed for kids or something.

There’s not much we can say about the hardware part. This Acer is similar to almost all the other netbooks around. One thing needs to be mentioned though: it has 1 GB of Ram, out of which 512 MB are integrated in the maiboard and 512 MB are added in the only existing RAM slot. So you could only upgrade this slot if needed. The Aspire One A 150 can also be upgraded with a 3G or WiMax module, but you can have them both simultaneously.

Acer Aspire One 150

Acer Aspire One 150 has a great price/value ratio

Although the Aspire One is small and has a 8.9″ screen, the fact that it comes with just a 3 Cell 2900 mAh battery really influences the autonomy, that’s only around 2.5 hours on the standard multimedia test. But, the good part is that you can replace the battery with a bigger 6 cells one, that should give you well beyond 4 hours of juice.

As for storage, this model comes with a 160GB HDD, but you can find versions with bigger hard drives or with SSD. They will cost more though. Ans speaking of prices, the Aspire One A 150 with the configuration presented here costs around $300 in the US.

So, overall, the Aspire One 150 is a pretty good choice. It’s not the best looking or the best build netbook around, but it has a very good value/price rate. So, if you’re looking for a medium netbook for everyday use, this might be the one. At least that’s what we say. But, there are other good options too; you should check them out in this netbook reviews section here.
