Asus Prime and Diary, two new EEE PC families for netbooks
A couple weeks ago i’ve posted an interview with Asus’s CEO, Mr. Jerry Chen. One of the questions asked regarded the confusion created by the so many netbooks with very similar names Asus offers.
In fact, how many of you can actually say what’s the difference between the 1001P, 1005HA, 1008KR or the 1018P ? I’m pretty sure not much, thus picking the right Asus netbook when time comes (for you to buy a new mini laptop) will be at least a little bit difficult. At that time, Mr. Chen answered that they know about this problem and are working on it.
A first step is probably the introduction of two new EEE PC families for netbooks, that will join the fancy and already known Seashell line, which provides good looks and excellent battery life, for a decent price (with members like the EEE PC 1005PE or the soon to come Asus 1015PE). These are going to be:

Asus 1018P -indeed a Prime member
- EEE PC Diary – a series meant for those always on the road, offering capable mini laptops that can still provide good battery life, while looking good. So, devices in this class are planed to be all-round competitive, with an accent towards mobile performances and reliability, the first netbook in the family being the Asus EEE PC 1016P.
- EEE PC Prime - the high-end class of Asus netbooks, with an extra focus towards an ultra slim and light body and amazing looks. Of course, power and autonomy won’t be neglected. The Asus EEE PC 1018P is the first member of the Prime line, and quite a member it is.
Asus are still early on the road to better delimit their devices in the regular buyer’s mind and we should see new changes in the near future. But at least they are doing something to get us there, and that’s the most important thing.
