Dell Inspiron 11z now available with lots of customization options, but expensive

Ever since Dell announced their Inspiron 11z back in August i was pretty impressed with its aspect and i was dying to see the customization options Dell will offer for this mini notebook. These are now available in Dell’s store and you can really transform the 11.6 inch device in quite a powerful little beast. But for quite a price that I’m not sure it’s worth paying.

I for one chose the following configuration (you can choose your own right here):

  • Intel SU4100 1.3 GHZ, dual core processor
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 250 GB hard-drive (5400 rpm)
  • Windows Vista Home Premium with free upgrade to Windows 7
  • Wi-fi n, Bluetooth
  • 56 WHr 6-Cell battery
  • 1 Year warranty service

All these got me to a whooping $750 bucks. If i would have added an Security Software and extended warranty, i would have even passed $900. So, although Dell announced the device starts from $399, for a proper equipped laptop you’ll pay at least 50% more (if you only pick the Single Core CPU or only 2 GB of RAM or the smaller battery).

Dell Inspiron Z - quite a looker, quite powerful and quite expensive

Dell Inspiron Z - quite a looker, quite powerful and quite expensive

So, even though this Dell Inspiron 11z can really pack some power (not in terms of graphics though), i consider it overpriced. It’s not that i don’t like it, i like it a lot actually, but for that amount of money, I’d rather buy a bigger 13.3 inch device like the Asus UL30A or the Acer 3810T . What do you guys think, is this Inspiron 11z config worth $750 or we can find better deals for that money?
