HP 5102 now configurable, but not as cheap as predicted
I mentioned yesterday that HP is planning to offer a cheaper version of the HP 5102, with a base starting price of $399. Well, this device is now configurable on their site, but it’s not as cheap as predicted. In fact, it’s still pretty expensive.
Base version starts at $518 with the following specs:
- 10.1 LED backlit display (1024 x 600 px)
- N450 1.66 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and 160 GB hard-drive (7200 rpm)
- Windows 7 Starter
- 4 Cell battery
- 1 Year warranty
So pretty much the specs i was telling you about yesterday, but the overall price is around $120 higher. And getting extra options will add to the price:
- HD ready display (1366 x 768 px) – $25
- multi-touch display (only available in 1024 x 600 px) – $50
- Broadcom graphics decoder – $45
- 2 GB of RAM – $25
- bigger drive – between $75 and $325 (for the 128 GB SSD)
- 6 Cell battery – $25
So, if you add up, you still get the same expensive HP5102. Fancy, great looking and with plenty of strong points, but with a price tag of around $700 . And that’s simply too much for a 10 inch netbook, don’t you think?

Configurable 10 inch netbooks from HP: 5102 - left (from $518) and 2102 - right (from $447)
You should go ahead and play with the configuration options on HP’s site.
And also, HP offers now a configurable 2102 netbook, starting from $447.
Both versions should start shipping in 2 weeks, from February 14th. But I doubt they’ll be a popular Valentine’s Day present anyway
