HP’s 5102 fancy netbook to become more affordable

Sitting on top of my list of 10 inch netbooks to have, HP’s 5102 really provides all you can need from such a small device. There’s no wonder the folks at Laptopmag declared it the best PineTrail netbook at the moment and i had so few things not to like about it in my review.

But, with a price tag around $700, this HP is surrounded by an “impenetrable wall” that just keeps buyers away.

However, there are good news. According to Brad at Liliputing, HP plans to make their admiral netbook more affordable, with prices starting from $399. However, this cheaper version will loose lots of the goodies that make it the best; will only offer a standard display (no longer HD ready), only 1 GB of RAM, smaller 160 GB hard-drive and a 4 Cell battery that will really eat from that amazing battery life. But you’ll still get the same exterior and metal alloy chassis that provides the mini laptop its unique classy looks.

However, although I’m glad HP is going to offer a cheaper version for the 5102, it seems kind of bare-naked in terms of features. Thus, choosing this HP 5102 over the cheaper but more potent Asus 1005PE or Toshiba NB305 will be pretty difficult.

The good news is that HP is also planning to offer some intermediate versions for the 5102, placed between the entry level and the top model, both in terms of features and prices. We’ll just have to wait and see what will those bring.
