MSI dual screen notebook – is this the future?

Posted in MSI by Mike . 1 comment so far

From the many interesting ideas and prototypes showcased this year at CES 2010, MSI’s dual screen notebook is by far one of the most impressive.

As you can see in the pictures below, this gadget looks like standard laptop when closed, but once you open it, you’ll notice that it has not one, but two different 10 inch multi-touch displays.

It’s cool that you have the liberty to show same content on both of them, like on a regular computer with dual screens, but you can also use one of the screens as a virtual control unit (virtual keyboard was implemented). The device is still a prototype for now and runs on Windows 7, but just imagine how many touch-enabled controls and applications can be developped for such a device, making it easy to use by virtually anyone.

Inside there’s an Intel Atom Z520 processor, so there’s actually enough power for everyday use.

Case and body looks quite nice and i particular like the narrow margins around the displays. However, from what those who actually got the chance to play with this MSI device at CES 2010, it seems it is kind of heavy and fragile. Check out the hands-on video below for more details.

Still, this is am amazing gadget, although still a prototype. Lots of things can be improved and definitely will, as MSI is expecting to be able to have such a product in production in 2011. There’s no point in thinking about prices now, just think of how many things you will be able to do with such a device.

And stay in touch, more details on this MSI dualscreen netbook will emerge in the next months and i’m pretty soon more producers will also announce and show case similar gadgets this year.
