New ULV processors on their way
The entire Intel Atom platform is designed to provide decent performance for a good price and with low energy consumption. However, that “decent” performance is not that much. In most cases, you won’t be able to multitask with too many applications, run HD content or any resources hungry software like Photoshop or Corel Draw.
For potential netbooks buyers looking for the above, Intel offers their ULV processors, like the popular SU7300 and SU9400. They are more expensive, but also more powerful.
The best part is that Intel plans to launch new ULV series based on their Core i5 and Core i7 series , with far better performances and still a good TDP so they won’t negatively affect battery life. Also, like the PineTrail Atom’s, the new ULVs will incorporate CPU and graphics on the same chip, thus allowing a more compact design and better heat dissipation.
Intel plans to ship these new ULV solutions this month, so we should see them in laptops in a couple of months. Expect them to offer quite a boost from the actual series, but with a higher price tag. More to come on this subject, so stay tuned.
