Sony axed the TT line. More netbooks to follow?

Sony offered one of the most exclusive and expensive lines of ultra-portable devices on the market: the Vaio TT series . But not anymore, as they announced they discontinued it.

With the fierce competition from netbooks, it seems the TTs were not performing as expected. Probably because of the prices, that could even jump $4000 for the high-end versions. Of course, in terms of hardware and performances, you can’t even compare devices like the TTs with netbooks, but the question is how many are willing to pay that much for these? And it seems there weren’t too many.

I for one feel sorry for the little beast, I liked it when I tested it back in January and was amazed of the things Sony could squeeze in that tiny body, but still, back then i wondered if it is worth it. There’s no rumors on a replacement for the TT line in the upper class ultra-portable devices. Perhaps Sony will continue with the 13″ Z series and focus more on netbooks like the Vaio W, scheduled to enter the market pretty soon. And who knows, we might even see new netbooks from Sony, perhaps hybrids between what a netbooks is today and the defunct TT, for a more affordable price.
