Sony Vaio P series – the fancy ultra-portable
Sony are known for their Vaio laptop line . They are some of the best available on the market, but do come with a price tag comparable only to Apple products or some high end models from Dell and HP. Besides laptops, they have a device that could be included in the netbook’s class: The Vaio P Series .

Vaio P - Sony's attempt of a netbook?
It’s a very portable piece of technology, weighting just 1.4 lbs. It has a 8″ screen with 1366 x 768 px resolution, and this is great, but might prove to be a killer for your eyes (everything will be very small on this display). Packs very nice hardware, with Atom CPUs at 1.33 or 1.86 Mhz, normal storage drives or SSDs up to 256 GB , 1 or 2 GB of RAM and almost all the connectivity options available at the moment (Bluetooth, Wi-fi and integrated 3G module and GPS).
As for looks, we already said we’re talking about a Vaio, so the P Series is just sick. There are many colors available, from white to black. Screen quality is very good and the device has a QWERTY keyboard with independent keys, similar to the one seen on the other Vaio Series. It lacks a trackback, but has a trackball.

Vaio P Series - great keyboard + trackball
Like i said, the device is quite small and light, and thanks to the up to 4 hours autonomy provided by the standard Li-Ion battery, it can be a good travel companion.
There’s of course the matter of prices, as the Vaio P starts from around 899$ in the US and tops over $2000. There’s also a better version for the Japanese market, with better CPUs. And of course that one is more expensive.
All in one, this Vaio is a great ultra-portable device with fancy looks, but the price tag makes it just not right for the netbook class. Because netbooks suposed to be affordable, and although the Vaio P Series has lots of qualities, it lacks this one.
