Sony Vaio W, the first true netbook from Sony

I was just writting the other day about the Sony Vaio P and was saying I for one, don’t consider it a netbook, because it’s way way too pricey. But today Sony launched their first true netbook, the Vaio W series. And this one seems to have all the right ingredients for a successful mini computer: strength, size, looks and price, all being just right.

So, here’s what will the new Vaio W bring:

  • Intel Atom platform with the N280 CPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 10.1″ screen with 1366 x 768 px resolution (LED backlit)
  • 160 GB SATA drive
  • Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Webcam
  • Windows XP OS

Sony Vaio W netbook - will be available in black, pink and white

All these plus the looks of the Vaio :P As you can see from the picture above, this netbook is pretty fancy. And it comes with a keyboard similar to that found on the bigger Vaio models, so I’m expecting it to be quite comfortable.

Everything sounds pretty good about this netbook. And here’s the surprise. Sony announced their new netbook will only cost around $500, and that’s a fair and competitive price. This way, the Vaio W series will compete with other top netbooks from Asus or MSI. But, this one has the advantage of being a Vaio.

Look for more details in the near future and for a test with the Vaio W in our netbook reviews section .
