Sony Vaio X – another fancy netbook from Sony
After Sony announced their first true netbook, the W series , it’s now time for a new debut, the Vaio X . Unlike the W, this device is a little bigger, as it has an 11.1″ screen . The body is a lot slimmer though and resembles the aspect of the already consecrated lines Z and F . And is supposedly built out of carbon fiber (niiiice).
Very few are known of the hardware specs, as nobody’s sure if the Sony Vaio X will stick with the Atom CPUs or go for the more powerful CULVs . In terms of ports, we know there will be a VGA output, 2 USBs and a card reader. And all these in a device that will only weigh around 1,5 pounds (700 g). That’s lighter than a regular book
Also, Sony announces they will bring a new type of battery that should give quite a boost in autonomy (I wonder if it can beat the 12 hours of the Nokia Booklet 3G. Update: They say the battery can last almost an entire day. Huh, that’s something i would have to see to believe it.).
However, as the pictures bellow show us, this netbook will well be in the stylish ultra-portables class and it will probably come with quite a price tag. Since the Vaio W will cost 500 bucks and looks like it does, this one will almost surely jump the $1000 mark. But hopefully I’m wrong cause this Sony Vaio X is quite a looker and my prove to be quite a powerful little machine also. So I’m looking forward to finding new things about it and I’ll update this post as soon as i do. So keep in touch.
Till then, here are a couple of pictures the guys at Engadget managed to shoot during the Vaio X launch at IFA 2009.
Update: Sony will announce the official specs and prices for the Vaio X in October and the device is scheduled to enter the market by the end of the same month, just a couple of days after the official Windows 7 launch.
Update2: The Folks from NetbookNews.com posted a video of the Vaio X shot at the scene, and you can find it just bellow.
