MSI recently announced a couple of new mini laptops in their Wind lines. The MSI Wind L1350 is the standard device in the 10 inch class, ready to go head to head with the likes of Asus 1005PE or Acer AO532h, as it is comparable in terms of features, performances and price with these two.

In fact, the MSI Wind L1350 offers almost everything you’ll need from a netbook meant for light everyday use.

There are a couple of different versions available for it. Outside, they are all the same, with a nice glossy, but textured (so scratches and smudges shouldn’t be that much of a problem) exterior available in black or blue, glossy 10 inch display and good chiclet keyboard + trackpad .

MSi Wind L1350 - nice exterior and design

Inside, there are some differences between the available versions. The base one offers:

Intel N450 1.66GHz processor + GMA 3150 graphics

1 GB of memory + 160 GB storage space

3xUSB, 1.3 MPx webcam, 4-in-1 card-reader, VGA out, etc

Wi-Fi N

3 Cell battery

Windows 7 Starter

This version is only available in blue, with a price tag of $299 . Only 20 bucks more than the MSi Wind L1300, but offering a different design, better keyboard and Windows 7 as the OS.

Chiclet keyboard and the 6 Cell battery sitcking out on the back a little bit

There is also an improved version, with 250 GB storage space and a 6 Cell battery available for only $329 , in black or blue. Excellent price for these features. In fact, the only inconvenient of this MSI Wind L1350 are the lack of Bluetooth and the fact that the bigger battery kind of sticks out on the bottom of the device. But i for one can leave with these.

All in all, the new MSI Wind L1350 is definitely a great pick, as it offers nearly all the standard features a 10 inch portable laptops should have, with an excellent price. What more could you want?

The market for cheap netbooks gets bigger and bigger, as more and more producers launch mini laptops with prices under $300. One of the latest appearances is the MSI Wind L1300, now available in the US and ready to ship towards your home, for only $279.

For that kind of money, this ultra-portable offers all the standard features of a 10 inch mini laptop available these days:

Intel N450 1.66 GHz processor + GMA 3150 graphics

1 GB of memory and 160 GB storage

10.1 inch glossy display, 1024 x 600 px

3xUSB slots, 1.3 MPx Webcam, card-reader, etc

Wi-Fi N

3 Cell battery

Windows XP Home OS

So, unlike all the other good and cheap netbooks I mentioned before, this one comes with a smaller battery (only a 3 Cell) and Windows XP Home. But I for one don’t mind having XP Home over Windows 7 Starter, as this last ones comes with many annoying limitations.

MSI Wind L1300 - cheap and good mini laptop for carrying around

Add to the above a matte rugged case perfect for carrying around and a standard flat keyboard that should be pretty comfortable for everyday use,

All in one, this MSI Wind L1300 is definitely a good pick for a secondary computer you’ll take along when traveling. Not as powerful as the best 10 inch netbooks of the moment, but also a lot cheaper. Cause like i said, it can be yours for only $279 right now.

It is sold in the US by TigerDirect , via Amazon, like Chris on NetbookReviews.com noticed earlier today.

There’s a new nettop in town, and quite a piece of machinery it is, as it packs some of the most potent hardware existing on such a mini computer at the moment, plus the needed looks and affordable price.

First, let’s have a look at the specs:

dual core Atom D510 processor

up to 4 GB of DDR2 memory

a 3.5″ 7200 rpm hard-drive (160 GB)

Discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300

4x USB ports (2 frontal, 2 on the back)

VGA/HDMI, 6-in-1 card reader, E-Sata, etc

The combo between the dual core processor and the HD4300 graphics will definitely allow good performances in games or playing self stored on or line HD content. Plus, you get the extra fast storage drive; although size might be a problem, but you can easily change it with a bigger one.

MSI Wind ED220 - looks and power in a brand new nettop

Of course, there are some downsides for this MSI Wind Box DE220. First, there’s no optical unit, but that’s not really that much of a problem. But, it also seems that Wi-Fi connectivity is not present, and that means you’ll have to stick with the old cable for Internet connection. And i for one was looking forward to getting rid of as many cables as possible.

Anyway, the device definitely looks good and will do just fine in your living room, next to you big LCD or plasma TV. It’s not one of those invisible machines you can connect to the back of a display, it’s not designed like that.

Price and availability are still a mystery right now. Still, i expect a very competitive tag for this one, probably something around 400 bucks or even less. But let’s wait and see about that, I’ll update once i find more.

Years have passed and MSI’s products got even better. They too launched their own lines of PineTrail devices with new looks and extra features, and now one of the most expected of their new devices can be pre-ordered is shipping in the US: The MSI Wind U160.

Specs are pretty standard: 1.66 GHz N450 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB HDD, Wi-fi N+ Bluetooth, 6 Cell battery (up to 15 hours battery life), 1.3 MPx camera and WebCam. Plus, you get the solid build, nice looks (although the case and display are glossy) and ergonomic chiclet keyboard that seems to have become standard amongst premium mainstream netbooks.

All these in a device that only weighs 2.4 pounds, making it one of the lightest in the 10 inch class. And once again i have to notice that stellar 15 hours battery life, that promises to be even better than what the Asus 1005PE can offer.

MSI Wind U160 is available in two distinct colors:

Jet Black – Wind U160-006US

Fancy Gold – Wind U160-007US

For now, you can only preorder the device, price being $379, 10 bucks above the 1005PE but $20 cheaper than Toshiba’s NB305. There’s no exact info on when will it start shipping, but expect this to happen in the next couple of weeks.

Update: As of today, March 6th 2010, the MSI Wind U160 is shipping from Amazon via the link above and can be yours in a matter of days. There’s also Free shipping included.

As expected, the new MSI Wind U160 attracted a couple of eyes at CES 2010. It really is quite a revolution for MSI in terms of looks and design, and the hardware inside is also better, bringing on the new Intel PineTrail platform.

You’ll find below a couple of hands-on videos with the 10 inch netbook. From what i could spot, main first opinions about the MSI Wind U160 are kind of the same:

looks nice, with a metallic touch finish, but design is ripped off inspired from the Vaios – check out the power button on the side

it’s thin

comes with chiclet keyboard with good flex and nice touchpad

case is very very glossy, so definitely a no no for me

Check out the video hands-on also:

First from Engadget.com

Second from Netbooknews.com

Besides those, it comes with standard features (Atom N450 prcesor, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard-drive, Windows 7 Starter) and will probably have many battery options (perhaps even a 9 Cell – MSI had some previous netbooks with one of these). Prices for this Wind U160 will start from $399 and the device should be available in stores later this month. Stay tuned for more details.

Nicole at netbooknews.com is at CES 2010 right now and she posted some interesting hands on with some of the products showcased there already. You can watch some of them below and also check out her site for more details on CES these next days.

First, there’s Lenovo’s U1 Hybrid we talked about yesterday. As expected, the detachable tablet is light and UI easy to use. But also, you can see how glossy the entire thing is and how difficult it is to see anything on that display, even though light conditions weren’t too bright in there.

Then, there’s MSI’s new Wind U160. Haven’t got the chance to talk about it here on NetbookLive yet, but we will shortly. It is definitely thin and compact, unlike other MSI previous netbooks.

Stay tuned for more videos and info on the new netbooks and technologies showcased at CES 2010 .

The MSI Wind U110 equipped with the big 9 Cell (7800 mAh) battery just got tested by the folks at Laptopmag and scored a wooping 12.5 hours autonomy on their tests. I’m not sure how exactly they perform those tests, but considering MSI claims this netbook offers up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge, that number is quite plausible.

However, when i said big battery, i was not speaking only about capacity, but size also. Because as you can see in the picture bellow, this one is quite bulky and adds quite a hump on the back of the Wind, making it a lot mot difficult to carry around. Also, imagine that no ordinary 10 inch sleeve or case would fit the U110, and that also is a problem.

Battery is quite big

However, if you’re looking for battery life, this netbook just tops the charts, in front of the more popular Toshiba Mini N205 or Asus EEE PC 1005HA. Hardware specs are standard (N270 CPU, Intel GMA 500 graphics, 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB hard-drive, Windows XP) and overall shape and construction is identical to the one of the first U100 Winds; and yes, that means you get the tiny touchpad and the decent keyboard with inverted right CTRL and FN buttons (I for one use that CTRL a lot, so this really bums me)

Price is pretty good, as this MSI Wind U110 sells on Amazon for $349. I the near future it will also be available with Windows 7, probably for around 400 bucks.

Wind U110 - standard looks, standard specs, extra autonomy

MSI Wind U110 Eco finally arrived in the US and is now available from Amazon for $399. A pretty good price, considering what it has to offer.

Bellow you can find the main specs:

10 inch LED display with 1024×600 px resolution

Intel Atom Z530 Processor – 1.6 Ghz

Intel GMA500 Graphics

1GB 533Hz RAM (up to 2GB) and a 160GB hard-drive

Good connectivity: Wireless 802.11n , Ethernet, 3 USB slots

Other features: 1.3 Mpx webcam, card reader, etc

Msi Wind U110 - 9 Cell battery netbook

So, as you can see, the MSI Wind U110 brings hardware specs above the ones of the standard 10 inch netbook. But the best is yet to come: MSI packed a 9 Cell 7800 mAh battery on this one, which combined to the low power CPU should really boost quite an autonomy (rivals like Asus 1005HA or Samsung NC20 should be shivering by now).

Of course, the bigger battery brings a slight weight increase, as this U110 weighs around 3.2 pounds, half a pound more than the standard netbook. But I believe that’s something we can live with. In terms of OS, you can choose between windows Xp and Vista, but i’d definitelly go for Xp for now, Vista is just incredibly sluggish on netbooks.

All in all, we might have a new contender for our list of best 10 inch netbooks . Cause for just under 400 bucks (see more details about this offer), this MSI Wind U110 Eco packs just everything you would need. It does have its flaws but i consider it quite a pick and i can’t wait to get my hands on it for a more through review.

MSI seems to hit hard the yet young bigger netbooks market. They allready announced the U200 earlier this year in the 12.1″ class and now are offering a new version, called MSI Wind U210.

Unlike the U200 that packs an Intel Celeron CULV 753 processor, the U210 comes with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core MV40 . It’s a dual core CPU, but also one of the few AMD powered netbooks on the market. We might seem more in the near future though, as their CPUs provide a better price/performance rapport than the Intel ones. Besides that, the U210 houses 2 GB of RAM, a 250 GB hard-drive and ATI Mobility radeon X1250 graphics .The 12.1″ screen with 1366 x 768 px resolution remained the same on both versions.

A cheaper MSI Wind U210 for the European market

As you can see, the MSI Wind U210 is weaker than the U200, but is also cheaper, with prices from 399 to 449 euros , compared to the 499 euros tag of the u200. There are two different versions available and you can see more about them on netbookitalia.it . The device is already available in some European countries. I’m not sure when will it come to US though, but if it will, prices should be better here.

MSI Wind was one of the early netbooks on the market, and next to the EEE PCs, it become one of the most known brands in this segment. And although it was launched a long time ago, the Wind U100 is still popular around the world and a good pick for an good priced netbook netbook.

These days MSI announced they’ll upgrade their oldie, and the upgraded version will bare the name of MSI Wind U100 Plus . There are only few changes, the most important one being the improved CPU: this model has the Atom N280 (1.66 Ghz, 667 Mhz FSB) , while the older had the Atom N270 (1.6 Ghz, 533 Mhz FSB). Also, there are a couple of new colors available for the exterior .

Besides that the netbook remains the same: 1 GB fo RAM, 160 Gb hard-drive, 10.2″ screen and Windows XP .

So, the new MSI Wind U100 plus might not be much different than the predecessor, but considering the price remains exactly the same as before (between $320 – $360) , any upgrade is welcomed. The new version should start shipping in US and Europe in just a couple of weeks, so stay tuned, cause we’ll come with updates once we find out more.
