We might see lots of tablet-netbooks in the near future
We already know Asus is preparing a couple of new tablet-netbooks for later this year (like the T101H 10″ model for example). But there are rumors that other big manufacturers, like HP and MSI are planning to launch similar devices in 2010. Also, Apple might launch their own product on this segment pretty soon, and while we don’t really know what will it be, it will probably have a touchscreen.
Thus, we might see quite lots of such products next year. But, i doubt they will become mainstream, because they’ll be more more expensive than regular netbooks and they won’t really bring extended value (I tend not to see the use of a touchscreen on a laptop, unless you’re a graphic designer and use it as a drawing board).
Anyway, since these new netbook like tablet-pcs will come next year they’ll probably use the new low voltage Intel platform (Pine Trail, the replacement of the current Atom) and will run Windows 7 (perhaps a version with extended features for touchscreens, who knows).
But, will these tablet-minilaptops represent the future of netbooks? I for one doubt that…
