What i’d have for my ideal netbook

Although a big fan of netbooks and their portability, I have to admit that there are lots of things to be improved on these tiny laptops. Perhaps the closest to perfection right now is HP’s 5102 10 inch device , but this one too could get better.

I’m just going to add a couple of things i’d love to see on netbooks later this year. Probably most of them won’t be available in this class, because will add a lot to the price of the end product, but still, if money wouldn’t be a problem, my ideal netbooks will come with:

  • hardware capable of proper multitasking, playing HD flash and 720p videos and running Photoshop decently
  • battery life of  10 hours (in real life usage, not on paper)
  • matte 10-11 inch LED display with anti-glare so it could be used outside (OLED would be even better) – having it convertible and capacitive would be nice also
  • ergonomic and illuminated chiclet keyboard (probably similar to the one of the Macs)
  • properly sized multi-gestures touchpad (like the one on MacBooks)
  • all these in a device as thin and light as possible (around 2 pounds, but i wouldn’t mind having something like the Vaio X)

As you see, i haven’t mentioned anything about dual touch displays or e-ink screens, etc. I for one wouldn’t need those. For my needs, a physic keyboard is a must, and like i said many times before, I prefer it over any kind of touch controls.

That’s it for my toy. But how about you? What would you put in your ideal netbook?

I wish to see the same features you mentioned in my Ideal Netbook. May be VAIO P like formfactor.
P.S: This a great website I must say. Really enjoyed your articles.Keep up the good work!
