Will the new Apple netbook be a Tablet PC or iPhone like?
After Sony launched their Vaio W netbook and joined the netbook dance, it seems that Apple is the only one left outside the circle. But not for long. There were many rumors of a Apple mini laptop earlier this year, but now it’s said (according to a taiwanese article) Apple will launch such a product only when they’ll have something revolutionary. And it seems that will happen later this fall.
And the new Apple netbook will be astonishing indeed, cause it will probably look like an oversized iPhone: a 9.7″ touchscreen device, very similar to the CrunchPad . At least that’s what it is believed right now.
What’s known for sure is that the screen was allready order from the Taiwanese company Wintek and the device will be manufactured by Foxcon (also from Taiwan). Also, the device should be quite powerful, being capable of playing HD videos without any problem. And it will have a price tag starting from $800 .
I for one am kind of skeptical about the whole giant iPhone design . Because a netbook must have a keyboard in order to be useful. Also, i doubt a device that is somehow resemblant to the iPhone and has a 9.7″ screen can be easily held and maneuvered. Of course, you can stick it in a docking station and connect external keyboard and mouse to it. But then it won’t be a netbook, cause it will lack portability.
But, these are only rumors, and I believe they’re not really true. Apple’s netbook will have a touchscreen display, but it will probably look like a Tablet PC (something like the Asus PC T91). That would be a better more practical approach. That, combined with the revolutionary things Apple will bring along, as they did with almost every new product they launched lately.
